SIALKOT: Around 18 armed people allegedly beat up a police team that had gone to village Ram Raaiyaan in Daska tehsil to stop the suspects from illegally occupying a piece of land belonging to a woman in the village.
According to the first information report, a police team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Dilawar Hussain responded to a call on police helpline 15 by Shazia Shahid, who said that some armed men were illegally occupying her land in the village. On seeing the police team, the suspects, including Abdul Ghaffar, Aas Muhammad, Kashif and Zafar Iqbal, armed with pistols, sticks and iron rods allegedly attacked them and held them hostage. They also ripped off the uniforms of constables Javaid Majeed and Nadeem Ashiq besides beating them. Later, the suspects fled from the scene.
Daska Saddar police registered a case against the assailants on the report of SI Hussain under sections 148, 149, 186, 353 and 506-II PPC. Police also claimed to have arrested the four nominated suspects and sent them behind bars. Further investigations were under way.
