ISLAMABAD: The police arrested 8,623 people and recovered stolen items worth Rs668.6 million between Jan 1 and Sept 16 this year.
A police spokesperson said that 285 dacoities and robberies were solved, 512 people were arrested and Rs7.6m worth of stolen items, including gold jewellery, was recovered following special directions from Inspector General of Police Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan.
The police also arrested 582 people for their alleged involvement in 378 cases of street crime and recovered Rs176.7m worth of stolen items from them.

In addition, 109 people were held for their alleged involvement in 147 car thefts and 131 vehicles were recovered from them. Similarly, 168 people were arresting for stealing motorcycles and 130 vehicles were recovered.
The police also arrested 1,084 absconders in this period, of which 467 were proclaimed offenders and 617 were absconders.
People also arrested 1,070 people for their alleged involvement in bootlegging and drug peddling activities and recovered 314 kilograms of hashish, 40kg of heroin, 7kg of opium, 4.8kg of crystal methamphetamine,11 grams of cocaine and 14,150 bottles of liquor.
The spokesperson said the police also arrested seven people for supplying drugs in educational institutions and recovered 5kg of hashish and 325g of heroin.
In addition, 702 people were arrested for possession of illegal weapons and 57 Kalashnikovs, 23 carbines, 581 pistols and 10,209 rounds of ammunition were recovered. Police solved 14 blind murder cases and arrested 28 people for their alleged involvement.
The police arrested 7,661 people for begging as well as 424 habitual culprits in a campaign against professional alms-seekers, the spokesperson said.
They also apprehended 112 people who were planning to commit robberies.
A total of 38 people were arrested under the Foreigners’ Act for residing in the country illegally, while 261 people were held for involvement in firing in the air and 97 cases were registered against them.
In addition, 185 people were arrested for gambling and 30 cases were registered against them, and 96 people were arrested for involvement in smoking shisha and 24 cases were registered against them.
Police arrested 846 people for violating section 144 and 256 cases were registered against them, while 12 people were arrested for possessing fake currency and 138 people were arrested in 23 cases of alleged immoral activity.
Police also arrested 43 people for selling unhygienic food and 87 for selling petroleum products illegally.
One person was held for violating the Amplifier Act.
The police spokesperson said a special campaign was launched against land-grabbing under which 157 cases were registered and 477 people were arrested.
