Cancellation of Rs220m construction contract sought over anomalies

MANSEHRA: The Mansehra tehsil council unanimously passed a resolution on Wednesday demanding of the provincial government to cancel the Rs220 million contract for the Jinnah Plaza’s construction over irregularities.

“We have detected some anomalies in the award of the Jinnah Plaza contract and therefore, the government should immediately cancel it andaward the contract afresh to prevent corruption and mismanagement,” tehsil councillor Raja Ayaz told the council before tabling a resolution.

Tehsil nazim Umar Farooq also addressed the council, which met with acting convener Khalid Qureshi in the chair.

Mr Ayaz said the Jinnah plaza was being built on the land previously used as a bus terminal.

The nazim said a piece of land had been acquired for garbage dumping at the cost of Rs1 million.

He said Rs8.5 million surplus funds would be distributed equally to councillors for development schemes.

Mr Farooq said some councillors with support of former acting nazim Asif Khan and the tehsil municipal administrator had withdrawn over Rs 5 million.

“We don’t accept such injustice meted out to other councillors and will ensure that the funds are spent across the tehsil equally,” he said.
