The Capital Development Authority on the orders of Supreme Court has partially sealed Safa Gold Mall on Saturday night. The move has left a sense of fear among the traders of loss of heavy investments.

The officials of Building Control Section, Estate Management and Enforcement directorates of the CDA took part in the operation while the ICT administration provided the magisterial cover.

As per sources, the basement of the shopping mall, food courts and the management offices were sealed by the development authority following which the operation was suspended after resistance from the shopping mall management.

The CDA had auctioned plot no 5 at the Jinnah Super Market in 2010 where the health department of the market was once present. The development authority in a questionable move has converted the facility into a commercial plot.

Later, 3 unauthorised storeys were constructed on the plot. The CDA gave the permit to the plot owner for constructing the additional storeys however withdrew the permission later.

While hearing a case, the Supreme Court observed that if Safa Gold Mall was built on a hospital plot, the plot should be retrieved, ordering the chairman CDA to act in this matter.

CDA spokesperson—Syed Safdar Ali said that after they received the green signal from NAB, the civic agency was free to act against the mall and have started the process as per the rules and regulations.

In the meantime, the investors who bought or took the shops in the shopping mall on rent heavily criticized the development authority for the sealing operation and asked if the mall was illegal, then why in the first place it was permitted to construct and why all the taxes were being deduced by the Directorate of Municipal Administration and FBR.
