International Anti-Corruption Day 9th December 2018

Summary: Corruption is the misuse of public power (by elected politician or appointed civil servant) for private gain. It is the main reason for economic disparities, social injustice and forces the poor into even more hopeless condition. It also erodes economic growth, biggest impediment in development and deprives citizens from their rights. So, it is equally important that citizens should be united against corruption and know how to combat it. Every year Transparency International Pakistan organizes walks and seminars on International Anti-Corruption day all over Pakistan. This year, TI Pakistan organizes walks and seminars in 24 districts across Pakistan. In Sindh the programs were organized in Hyderabad, Badin, Matiari, and Jacobabad; in Punjab they were organized in Dera Gazi Khan, Layyah, Vehari, Chaniot, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Gujrat, Lahore, Nankana and Bahawalnagar; in Balochistan they were organized in Kallat, Jaffarabad, Lasbella and Pishin; in KPK they were organized in Mardan, Nowshera, Swat, Buner and Peshawar; in Awaz Jummo and Kashmir it was organized in Muzaffarabad.
A large number of common citizens along with civil society members, media personnel, lawyers, students, teachers and religious leaders participated in these gatherings. During the seminars, the speakers highlighted various corrupt practices in health, education, revenue, police, and other departments. They also pointed out corrupt practices of common people by breaking traffic signals, and violate certain laws and why he/she does not report corrupt practices. The speakers also urged the participants to know and practice Right to Information laws in the country for transparency and accountability. In the end, all of them thanked the efforts of TI Pakistan and their partner organizations to arrange such events on this important day.
