Cop held for taking bribe

SARGODHA: Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested a police constable for taking bribe from a citizen.
Muhammad Ejaz through his application submitted to Regional Director ACE Asghar Joyea that constable Muhammad Shahid of Cantonment Police Station arrested him in a fake narcotics case and freed him after taking Rs 200,000. He further alleged the said constable was demanding more Rs 20,000 as Eidee.
Taking action, assistant director Tasawar Abbas along with Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Aqeel arrested the constable with money.
Rs 84.6m to be spent on general bus stand: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Salwat Saeed Monday said the 3rd phase of development work at general bus stand would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 84.6 million. Chairing a meeting to review the development work of bus stand, the DC said missing basic facilities would be ensured with the funds while tuff tiles would also be installed in the bus stand’s premises with the allocated funds. The city general bus stand was considered as model stand across the district, she said, adding that best facilities would also be ensured to passengers at any cost. She further directed the administrator to make efforts for the welfare of travelers and ensure best arrangements for them.
PO killed in encounter: A proclaimed offender (PO) was killed in an encounter with police in the jurisdiction of Jhal Chakian police station. Acording to police, on a tip-off, Jhal Chakian police raided a house in Chak 58/NB to arrest POs Hassan Raza, Nazir and two others. Seeing the police, the outlaws opened fire which led to encounter and as a result of which Hassan Raza received bullet injuries and died on the spot.
20 drivers challaned: Secretary District Road Transport Authority (DRTA) challaned 20 drivers for violation of traffic rules and impounded 2 vehicles.
According to the authorities, DRTA secretary Farooq Haider Aziz during the ongoing drive against traffic rules violation visited Sargodha-Jhawrian road and challaned 20 drivers and imposed fine of Rs 12,000 on them. Police have also impounded 2 vehicles. Secretary DRTA warned the transporters that route permits of their vehicles would be cancelled for traffic rules violation.
