An accountability court has issued notices to Nawaz Sharif’s former secretary, Muhammad Saeed Mehdi, and other accused, nominated in a reference filed against the award of illegal contracts for the sale and purchase of petroleum products.
During a hearing in Karachi on Friday, the court summoned the accused at the next hearing and also issued arrest warrants for the accused who are on the run.
Remarking that the reference appears to be maintainable, the court admitted it for hearing.
According to the reference, Mehdi was the former chief executive, president and a shareholder of the Admore Gas Pvt Ltd and was involved in the illegal sale of Pakistan State Oil’s (PSO) petrol to the company.
The reference states that in 2010, PSO officials conspired and awarded illegal contracts for the sale and purchase of petroleum products, with the approval of the board of directors, which caused a loss of more than Rs552 million to the Finance Department.
Besides Mehdi, PSO Marketing Senior General Manager Irfan Khalil, former managing directors of PSO, Naeem Yahya and Zulfiqar Ali Jafri, and former marketing director of Admore Gas Pvt Ltd, Anwar Masood Zaidi, are also nominated in the reference.
