SAHIWAL: The district government on Monday retrieved two acres state land worth Rs3bn.
The land was retrieved in the two-hour long operation conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Zaman Wattoo.
The authorities claimed the contractor was running a marquee and a Chinese restaurant at the land owned by the Sahiwal Club which had sublet him the land in 1996. The officials said the deal had caused Rs39.3m loss to the national exchequer till date.
DC Wattoo told Dawn that under the law, the Sahiwal Club land was already on lease from the provincial government and the club could not sublet it to any contractor without permission of the provincial government. He said the rules were violated in the deal.
