FIA Nabs 36in drive against the illegal satellite, dish receivers


Lahore: The FIA has launched crackdown on the dealers of illegal satellite and dish receivers across Punjab and arrested 36 peoples involved in the business during the last two days.
The FIA along with Customs and PEMRA launched the crackdown in different cities of the province, including, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Chiniot, Sargodha, Shekhupura, Sialkot and Mandi Bahaudin, on Saturday and Sunday and arrested 36 people involved in this illegal business. Cases were also registered against them, FIA Lahore spokesperson Altaf Gohar Watto told Dawn on Sunday.
He said a lager number of illegal direct-To-Home (DTH), digital receivers and other related equipment were seized during the raids. A good amount of Foreign exchange was being laundered through illegal DTH business that would stop now, he claimed.
Separate first information reports were registered against the business owners and other suspects under the Pemra ordinance, Anti-Money Laundering Act, Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, Customs Act and relevant sections of the PPC.
