Hundreds of illegal gas connections cut


PESHAWAR: The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited, during its drive against gas pilferage, has seized 1,350 feet of illegal gas pipeline networks, disconnected 153 illegal connections and removed 51 tampered metres in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Peshawar, the raids were conducted in Ahmad Khel, Kaga Wala, Tehkal, Mathra, Surezai, Regi, Sufaid Dheri, Urmar Badhber, Achar, Bahadar Kili, Marozai, Chagarmatti and localities along the Charsadda Road.
According to a statement issued here on Wednesday, during the operations in Karak, one direct bypass of a plaster of Paris factory, four illegal gas connections of power generation units and welding workshops were disconnected. Five people were arrested.
The taskforce also disconnected 35 illegal gas pipeline networks in the district.
In Peshawar and surroundings, the SNGPL taskforce disconnected illegal gas pipeline networks from Rauf Town on GT Road and Gul Garden on Dalazak Road. Respective police stations were approached for registration of FIRs against the gas pilferers. During the operations, gas volume of 51 mmcf amounting to Rs39 million was detected.
Meanwhile, the SNGPL has started work on a new eight-inch diametre augmentation pipeline project on Warsak Road to overcome low gas pressure, especially during winter.
SNGPL General Manager Peshawar Arbab Saqib in a separate statement said Peshawar city had now three major transmission feeds which would meet the requirements during peak winter season.
He said the SNGPL had augmented and upgraded entire main lines in BRT project. Besides, he said the economic zone had a dedicated 16-inch line.
He said there would be zero complaints in next winters as most of the projects had been completed.
