Kurram Contractors Protest ‘Irregularities’ In Tendering Process

KOHAT: The contractors from Kurram tribal district staged a protest demonstration outside the public health engineering department here on Tuesday against what they said award of contracts to blue-eyed people on payment of commissions.

The protesting contractors included Engr Shaban Ali, Munir Hussain, Haji Noor Hussain, Laiq Hussain, Ashiq Hussain, Mujahid Hussain and Pir Murad.

Talking to journalists on the occasion, they alleged that those who agreed to pay commission were given forms an hour ahead of opening of the tenders or on a phone call, whereas the genuine contractors were being denied the tender forms for two days which was illegal.

They called for retendering of the contracts and warned to file a petition in the Peshawar High Court in case their demand was not met.

They appealed to the prime minister and the chief minister to have mercy on them and provide staff at the Sadda office of Kurram district so that the tenders were opened there instead of Kohat.

MEDIA’S ROLE LAUDED: Hangu district police officer Ehsanullah Khan has stressed the need for positive critical media with an objective to pinpoint the problems of the people and shortcomings of the government.

Speaking at a commendation certificate distribution ceremony at Hangu Press Club, he said media was eyes and ears of the government and its role was indispensible in guiding the government.

He asked the journalists to promote peace, tolerance and reconciliation in the society.

He admired the Hangu journalists for their positive and responsible role in reforming the society and the government departments. He said police department was grateful to the support of journalists. Commendation certificates were distributed among journalists of Hangu and Orakzai districts.
