NAB arrests senior police officer

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday arrested a senior officer of the Punjab police in income beyond means case.
“The NAB arrested SSP Junaid Arshad for possessing assets beyond his known sources of income. The suspect acquired several plots worth millions of rupees in Lahore and Islamabad by misuse of power of his office during 2002-08. Besides, transactions worth millions of rupees have also been detected in his bank accounts,” a NAB spokesman said and added that the bureau had summoned him several times but he did not join the investigation.
The suspect will be produced before the anti-corruption court for physical remand on Tuesday (today).
Last month, the Federal Investigation Agency’s cyber crime wing had arrested Junaid Arshad for allegedly uploading objectionable pictures of his former wife on social media. The NAB reportedly has taken the custody of the suspect from the FIA in the income beyond means case.
In her application, Arshad’s former wife alleged he was an influential police officer who humiliated her by uploading her pictures on social media. The FIA had also placed Rs500,000 reward for his arrest.
