NAB asked to probe case relating to Quetta’s drainage and road projects

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to initiate investigation into a case relating to Quetta drainage and road projects.
The case was filed by the previous provincial government, but in 2014 an inspection team of the then chief minister dropped the investigation.
Official sources said on Tuesday that Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani had given approval for initiating investigation into the case and directed officials concerned to send the case to NAB for conducting investigation into alleged corruption and mismanagement in construction of roads and drainage system in Quetta.
Citing an old inquiry report, sources said that the cost of the projects was increased from Rs1.4 billion to Rs2.4bn.
They said despite flaws in the projects were pointed out the previous government did not remove objections and started working on them.
They said CM Alyani had decided to send the case to NAB in view of the failure of the drainage system after recent heavy rains in the city.
