LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore on Wednesday distributed Rs120 million among 200 victims of the Canal Motors scam.

NAB Director Investigation Ahtram Aitraz and Additional Director Rafique Memon handed over the amount to the victims.

According to the NAB, prime suspects Rana Qaiser Nazir and Mohsin Abbasi were arrested while three others managed to flee the country. Nazir has been handed down 12 years of imprisonment and Rs450 million fine while Abbasi got five years in jail, it said.

It said 200 affected persons had filed claims with the bureau and all of them got compensated.

“The victims will be compensated more after selling the suspects’ attached property worth over Rs130 million,” the bureau said.

The suspects in 2009 had started receiving investment from the gullible people on the promise of giving them handsome profit but went back on their word.
