KARACHI:

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched an investigation against former health secretary, Fazalullah Pechuho and sought details from the administration of Peoples Medical Hospital regarding the dialysis machines brought from Japan two years ago.

The accountability watchdog has sought an explanation from the hospital administration in its letter, seeking details on how many machines were purchased, how many were installed in the Urology Department and how many patients underwent dialysis.

Around 10 dialysis machines were imported from Japan in 2017-18 when Pechuho was the health secretary, but now there is no information about them.

According to sources affiliated with the hospital, the machines were installed in the Urology Department of Peoples Medical Hospital. The medical superintendent, Dr Yousuf Zardari confirmed that they have received a letter from the NAB, seeking details of the dialysis machines.

MS Zardari said that he had been appointed only recently and they were investigating where the machines have gone.

Dr Pechuho is Asif Ali Zardari’s brother-in-law and the husband of the incumbent health minister, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho.
