NAB nabs big guns in metro corruption case

MULTAN/GUJRANWALA – The NAB Multan has arrested some officiers including Chief Engineer of Multan Metro project, director engineering and subdivisional officers (SDOs) in connection with metro corruption case here on Thursday, The Nation has learnt.
NAB sources disclosed that Chief Engineer Sabir Khan Saddozai and some other officials were arrested when they came to join the investigation. The sources further disclosed that Director Engineering Nazir Chughtai and SDOs Manzoor Ahmad and Munim Saed were also arrested. The NAB sources said that the arrested accused would be produced before the court tomorrow.
It may not be out of place to mention here that the NAB had launched an investigation into metro project on allegations of massive corruption levelled by different quarters. The project cost national exchequer over Rs. 30 billion under which 18.5 kilometer long metro route was laid.
On the other side, a team of Anti-Corruption Establishment [ACE] caught a revenue officer red-handed receiving bribe on Thursday.
ACE Regional Director Sheikh Fareed Ahmed told the media that a citizen, Khizer Hayat, gave an application to the ACE that Naib Tehsildar Phalia was demanding bribe from him for transfer of property in his name. On the directions of higher authorities, ACE circle officer raided Tehsil office and caught the accused Muneeb Hussain, Naib Tehsildar, red-handed while receiving Rs15,000 as bribe from the citizen. A case was registered against him.
A lawyer was shot at and injured by unknown motorcyclists here at Jagna, Gujranwala. It was reported that Muhammad Shoaib advocate was going back to home from Sessions Court. Near Jagna, two motorcyclists opened fire at him. Resultantly, Shoaib received bullet injuries and was rushed to DHQ Hospital. Police started investigation.
Meanwhile, Wazirabad City police during a campaign against drugs recovered 1.5kg of Charas and arrested a notorious drug-pusher from Hajipura Chowk.
Wazirabad DSP Riazul Haq was tipped-off about trafficking of narcotics into the city. The DSP passed a directive to City police SHO Shabbir Gill to take remedial measures. ASI Sagheer Cheema along with a police contingent cordoned off the Haji Pura Chowk and started snap-checking. The ASI arrested a notorious drug-dealer namely Zahid alias Jhara going toward Daska Road, and recovered 1.5kg of Charas from his possession. He was carrying the drug in a polythene bag. Zahid alias Jhara, resident of Sheesh Mahar was booked under section 9-C and was put behind in a lockup.
On the other hand, Okara District Police Officer Zishan Asghar transferred Sub Inspector Ch Muhammad Sarwar and posted him as A-Division Station House Officer. Inspector Mehmoodul Hassan was transferred to B-Division police station, SI Zamanur Rashid to Okara Saddr police station, SI Rifat Hameed to Shahbore police station, Inspector Riazuddin to Gogera police station, Inspector Rizwan Bhatti to Ravi police station, Inspector Akhtar Khan to Renala Khurd Saddr police station, Inspector Ijaz Dogar to Depalpur City police station, Insector Malik Tariq Javed to Depalpur Saddr police station, Inspector Rao Dilshad to Chorasta Mian Khan police station, Inspector Aftab Sabir to Basirpur police station, Inspector Qalbe Sajjad to Hujra Shah Moqeem police station, Inspector Allah Ditta to Mandi Ahmadabad police station, Inspector Malik Tanveer was posted as PSO to DPO, Inspector Azmat as Incharge CIA, and Inspector Irfan Alam as incharge NIU Okara City.
