PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has urged the Peshawar Electric Supply Company to take decisive action against kunda mafia (power thieves) in order to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the Hayatabad Industrial Estate.
In a statement issued here the other day, SCCI president Faiz Mohammad Faizi said the industrial growth was already on the decline due to prolonged war on terror, and feared that non-availability of raw material and energy crisis would bring the industries on verge of collapse.
He said if timely action was not taken against power thieves then the existing industries would pull down their shutters due to constant tripping issue that would further generate unemployment in the province.
Mr Faizi said the power supply got interrupted frequently owing to overloading of the power distribution system, mainly due to the direct hooks.
He said such problems halted production, leading to huge financial losses.
The SCCI chief said the Pesco officials, the district administration and the police were reluctant to take notice of industrialists’ complaints against the illegal power connections.
He warned that if the kunda culture was not eradicated then the existing industries would close down.
Though, he said the Pesco had launched campaign against power theft it was yet to be succeeded.
He said power theft was also inflicting financial losses to the distribution company.
