Police arrest three men involved in online fraud

Police, on Monday, said that they arrested two suspects allegedly involved in online fraud.
According to the police officials, the detained suspects had looted Rs 750,000 from a young girl namely Maria Bashir on the pretext of getting her a spot in a medical college. Reportedly, the suspects befriended the girl on a social media site and assured her that after she paid them the money, she would get into a medical college.
An FIR under Sections 420 and 406 of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered at the Shah Faisal Colony police station against three suspects namely Waqar, Mobin and Mansoor on the complaint of Maria Bashir who is a resident of Shah Faisal Colony.
According to the FIR lodged by Maria, a man called Waqar befriended her on Facebook last year and told her that he would help her in getting admission in a medical college in Karachi. Maria stated that Waqar met her with two of his friends called Mobin and Mansoor. She said that one of his friends posed as an official from Sindh police’s crime branch whereas another one pretended to be an intermediate official. According to Maria, Waqar said that he was working for a nongovernmental organization (NGO).
She said that the suspects assured her that they would help her with admission if they received Rs1 million (m) from her as their commission. She said that she paid Rs750,000 to the suspects in a series of four installments but they did not keep their word.
Maria further claimed that the suspects even threatened her when she asked them to return her money. She added that she approached the police in order to register a case against them. The police then told Maria in order to call the suspects to retrieve her documents from them. Reportedly, when the suspects reached Korangi to return the girl her documents, the police arrested them.
According to the police, a case has been registered against the suspects and further investigation is underway.
