5th YinG Lecture

5th YinG Lecture at Greenwich University,
25th May 2010

5th YinG lecture was organized at Greenwich University on 25th May 2010. Professor Santosh Kumar of Shah Abdul Latif University was invited as the speaker to express his views on the topic of ‘How can youth help in combating corruption’. This lecture was attended by 80 students including prominent faculty members.

The lecture started by stating some of the issues that are plaguing our nation. The most important is the attitude of people towards this menace. Pakistanis as a nation do not appreciate the fact that we cannot survive until we have a cure against this disease.

The speaker pointed out the level destruction that has already been caused by corruption and the fact that virtually nothing concrete has been done against it as yet. He stressed upon the extremely important role that the youth have to play in the struggle to eliminate this evil from our society as they are the leaders of tomorrow and hence hold the key to success. He gave an example of Chinese as a nation who were addicted to Opium and with the help of their leadership and the will of people they were able to eradicate this craving and are today one of the most successful nations of the world.

He was of the opinion that corruption cannot be removed from the minds of youngsters until they have the will power to suppress their lust and greed for money regardless of how they get it. He stressed upon the need to overcome our complexes and tries not to look for shortcuts as these will definitely lead them to destruction.

The speaker also dwelt on the importance of character building and self accountability, as a diamond stays a diamond where ever it is. As humans we should have a control our desires and bring them to a realistic level as everyone cannot become Bill gates in an instant. We all have to go through a lot that has to be realized by the youth who think that it is an easy path as success is not easily achievable. One has to go through a lot of hurdles to achieve it.

He quoted some verses from the Holy Quran and also related the incident of Hazrat Ibrahim and the bird which also joined in the effort to extinguish the fire fully knowing that its efforts have a negligible role to play but it wanted to be counted among those who tried to put out the fire and not be amo9ng the ones responsible for setting the fire or who were mere spectators.

This is what our nation needs to work against this evil and eradicate it from our society, we should stop the blame game immediately and the youth should form groups in universities and colleges to educate the people as according to him to educate one is to educate all.

In the end several question were asked questions by the audience. After the question answer session, one of the students was also invited on stage to express his views.

Prof. Tahira of Greenwich University gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the honorable vice chancellor and presented a plaque to the speaker.
