4th YinG Club Debate Competition, Peshawar
Held at FAST National University
On 9th June 2010
4th YinG Club Debate Competition, Peshawar, was held on June 9, 2010 at FAST-National University, Peshawar campus in Collaboration with Sarhad University of Science and Technology and FAST National University. 24 debaters from 10 universities participated in the competition and was attended by an audience of 150 people. The program started at 9:35 AM after the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Ghiasul Haq, Director FAST-NU Peshawar campus and Inaugural Address by the Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Salim ur Rehman, Vice chancellor Sarhad University.
The debate Session was chaired by Prof. Chand Rehman of FAST-National University. Ms. Shagufta Taskeen, Assistant Professor Jinnah College for Women Peshawar, and Mr. Tajwar Tajuddin, Assistant Professor of Urdu Language and Literature Government College Peshawar, were the judges.
The first session began with a lot of enthusiasm as after a long time such an event had been organized in the city. Some of the debaters in the beginning gave references of the politicians and the actors involved in destroying the image of Pakistan in the world. They also referred to the efforts made by Transparency International Pakistan for making the society corruption free and good governance.
While appreciating the debaters the chairpersons stated that holding of debates has somewhat decreased in our educational institutions and thus have to be given importance as language, religion and culture helps make a citizen complete and these kinds of events should take place more often
The participants presented pertinent and thought provoking arguments in their speeches to support their contentions. At the end of the session prizes were distributed amongst the debaters. Mr. Hassan Yousafzai from FAST- NU got the 1st, Mr. Zohaib Hasan from Agricultural University got the 2nd, Mr. Mubashar Hayat from Gandahara University got the 3rd prize. Ms. Nayab from Gandahara University got the Consolation Prize.
After the Debate Session shields were presented. Dr. Ghiasul Haq, Director FAST-NU Peshawar campus, presented prizes and certificates to the participants, and shields to the Chairperson, the Judges and the organizers of the program. Dr. M. A. Basheer of Sarhad University presented a shield to the Director FAST-NU Peshawar campus.
The programme was well received by the participants and were appreciative of TI- Pakistan for organizing a healthy competition for the awareness of the students to identify the problems we are facing due to the menace of corruption.
