6th Youth in Governance Lecture

Held at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad
On 6th June 2011


6th Youth in Governance lecture was held at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad on 6th June, 2011 at 10 P.M. A total of about 150 people attended the lecture including faculty of the same university and renown professors from other universities as well.



The speaker for the lecture was Mr. Rauf Khalid Ex-serviceman (bureaucrat) and a renowned filmmaker, and television writer/director. This lecture was a part of the series of events organized by the YinG program all over Pakistan in different universities and colleges.



The main purpose of this lecture was to acknowledge the factors hindering the success of students one of that is corruption. The speaker stated that
Merit has no space in this Islamic Republic and vacancies are filled on the basis of corruption, recommendation and family link. He also said that we are promoting just quantity and not quality in every field including education. He said that the more one is corrupt, the more he or she is considered to have the right to govern and get a post in bureaucracy. He said that when dynastic play role in choosing the rulers, the ordinary citizens stand no chance to enter the corridors of power. We have given right to interpret Islam to maulvi who does not know anything about Islam.”

 

Dr Masoom Yasinzai, Vice Chancellor while giving the concluding remarks lamented that only 5 or 6 per cent youth are in higher education. He said that education got less than two per cent in the next budget. He said that corruption is the actual terrorism in the country. He said that those not doing their work properly are corrupt. Calling oneself as Punjabi or Pathan is also corruption. He said that you will find a level of corruption in all aspects of life.
