NGO Networking Workshop AMRDO 31st March 2010
Held at New Saeedabad, Sind
In collaboration with Al Mehran Rural Development Organization
On 31st March 2010
A workshop was arranged by TI-P in collaboration with AMRDO at their head office in New Saeedabad. It was attended by approximately 60 NGOs from various parts of Sind.
Mr. Abdul Jabbar Chhachhar, CEO of Al Mehran Rural Development Organization, started the workshop by giving an introduction and spoke of their organization’s relationship with TI-P.
The next speaker was Dr. N.I. Khowaja, Director Projects of TI-P. He gave an introduction of Transparency International and how it came into existence. He spoke about TI-P and its vision. Further on he spoke about the negative far reaching effects of corruption. He invited all the participants to get united to work for the elimination of corruption.
Ms. N.A. Mirza, Project Coordinator of TIP-ALAC, was the next speaker. She gave a short talk on anticorruption. She made an introduction of Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre and its purpose of ‘providing legal advice to anyone who needs it’. The formation of a network under the umbrella of ALAC was discussed. Advocacy will be enacted by the NGOs joining this Network enabling the spread of our message to the people at the grass root level. Most of the people are unaware of their rights and that gives rise to corruption. Therefore, it is important that the populous are made aware of their rights and given an appropriate place where they could go to get their grievances addressed. Everyone has to be made aware that while they have rights (and those should be defined to them) they come along with responsibilities, which they have to perform no matter how hard it is or what sacrifices they have to give.
She elaborated on the formation of ‘Transparent NGO Network - Sind” in partnership with TI-P/ALAC. She said that the idea behind it is to provide a platform to NGOs in Sind to unite on one platform to work towards the elimination of corruption. In this way, this message can easily be passed on in their areas of operation. The motto “United we Stand, Divided we Fall” would be kept in mind. Thus, if required, a call could be made to other members of the Network to come forward and join for their cause on anti-corruption.
Four groups were formed in which they presented their views on the formation of this Network. What their aims were and how it could be achieved. A lot of positive ideas came through and the eagerness of the participants was seen.
The question/answer section was enlightening. At the conclusion, they wanted to know when they could start joining this Network.
