TI-Pakistan & Center for Globally Responsible Leaders Seminar in Lahore held on 16th March, 2010
Transparency International – Pakistan in collaboration with The Center for Globally Responsible Leaders (CGRL) organized a seminar on "UN Global Compact 10th Principle & Corporate Sector Engagement" in Lahore on March 16th 2010. The seminar was attended by representatives of the corporate sector, educationists, policy makers and members of the general public.
Mr. Adil Gilani, Chairman, Transparency International, was amongst the prominent speakers and he talked of the elimination of Corruption from Pakistan and offered solutions to counter the existing situation in the country where corruption lies on each level including the high officials and the general public.
The seminar was attended by the CEOs of different groups of companies including Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT and Chairman CGRL, Iftikhar Ali Malik, CEO Guard Group, Mohsin Syed, Former Chairman, TEVTA, Bakhtiar H Wain, CEO, Avanceon, Abid Farooq, CEO, Farooq Textile, Aasia Saail Khan, Director, Zaka Pharmacy. Tahir Javed, VP HR, Engro Pakistan Ltd. and Mr. Umar Farooq, Chief Collector Customs
The educational sector was represented by Dr Mughees Uddin Sheikh, Dean, Social Sciences, Punjab University, Dr Faheem-ul- Islam, Director SEDC, LUMS, Dr A H Nayar, Director, Ali institute of Education, and Dr Qais Aslam, Specialist in Environmental Economics, University of Central Punjab.
The seminar concluded on a pleasant and healthy discussion between Mr. Adil Gilani Chairman TI- Pakistan and the executives present. All the participants were optimistic on the prospects of the country and were hopeful that the collective will and resilience of the Pakistani people would lead to a better future where merit would take precedence over corrupt practices. It was stressed that if all the stakeholders join hands to eradicate corruption at all levels, name of the country could just disappear from the category of the most corrupt countries.
