A two-day workshop was held at the Hotel Avari in Karachi on the 4th and 6th of February, 2009. This was a training workshop to inform the employees at Transparency International Pakistan about basic human rights and gender issues, its evolution, and how to employ human rights in TI-P.
The workshop was attended by the TI-P members, and Ms. Kaneez Fatima, Senior Programme Officer, SDC. Ms. Nazish Brohi was the facilitator for the workshop. The first day revolved around the very interesting topic of human rights, its concept, evolution and uses, specially pertaining to Pakistan and TI-P. By the end of the session, a consensus was passed that all attendees were well aware of human rights, but now had a clearer grasp on its concepts and uses.
The second day of the workshop was highly interactive at the suggestion of the participants’ feedback regarding the first day of the workshop. The concept of gender issues was defined to the attendees. The workshop started off on a simple, yet highly conducive activity that resulted in a high rate of participation and interaction.
All attendees participated actively in the workshop, and in the concluding session there was a mutual agreement that the workshop was beneficial not just regarding the knowledge gained on the topic of Human Rights and Gender Issues, but the application of these issues and an effort to curb the misuse and ignorance of these topics can result in a positive long-term result.
