Shahid Masood to be indicted on 29th

ISLAMABAD: A special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has rejected a plea by anchorperson Dr Shahid Masood and decided to indict him in the PTV corruption case on April 29.
Special Judge (Central) Kamran Basharat Mufti had earlier reserved the order on an application filed by Dr Masood seeking acquittal under Section 265-K of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The provision allows a court to exonerate an accused without completing the trial if the judge finds insufficient evidence or weakness in the prosecution case.
However, the court dismissed Dr Masood’s plea filed under the section on Thursday and decided to put him on trial.
According to FIA, Dr Masood caused a loss of Rs37 million to PTV when he signed an agreement, as chairman of the organisation, with a fake company, International Sports Solution (ISS), in 2008 for acquisition of rights from the Pakistan Cricket Board to telecast all matches played by Pakistan.
Investigators claim that funds were released in favour of the fake firm, causing a loss of millions of dollars to PTV as the state-run channel failed to acquire PCB rights for the 2008-2013 period.
Shahid Masood was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court by FIA on Dec 23 last year after the court dismissed his petition.
A two-member bench, headed by Justice Manzoor Ahmed, had accepted Dr Masood’s bail application on Jan 28.
