Six Arrested for ‘Torturing’ Irrigation Officials


BAHAWALNAGAR: Six people were booked and arrested for torturing an inspection team of the irrigation department in Chak Madrassah on Sunday after the team stopped the people from gathering their cattle near the canal bank.

According to the first information report, the irrigation department’s Muhammad Hasan and Muhammad Yousaf were inspecting Fordwah Canal during which they asked Muhammad Fazal, Muhammad Mazhar, Shah Muhammad and others not to gather their cattle near burji No L/4, as the canal bank was being damaged.

The people allegedly attacked the officials, tortured them, tore their clothes and fled from the scene.

Sub-Divisional Canal Officer Riaz Ahmad said that the tortured officials were admitted to hospital, while a case had been registered at Madrassah police station against the six men, who had been arrested.
