PESHAWAR: In its drive to curb gas theft, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited has seized 290 tampered meters and disconnected 1,480 feet gas pipeline networks and 358 illegal gas connections during last one week in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to a statement issued here, the action was taken by the SNGPL Peshawar task force with the support of FIA and local police during the past one week.
It said that during the operations, six direct bypasses of power generation units were disconnected in Karak where the police registered FIRs against owners of these power generation units, including Shakil Khan, Fazal Rabi, Gul Khan and three others. The accused persons had been arrested. In addition, 56 illegal gas pipeline networks were also disconnected in Karak.
It was stated that raids were also conducted by the task force jointly with the district administration in parts of Kohat and Bannu districts where 134 direct gas lines were removed and nine FIRs were lodged.
In Peshawar, the task force disconnected 1,480 feet illegal gas pipeline networks and 358 illegal connections besides removing 290 tampered meters in various areas, including Bazidkhel, Achar, Bahadar Kallay, Serband, Pakha Ghulam, Landi Sarak, Urmar, Regi, Palosi and Tehkal, and some localities on Charsadda Road and Warsak Road.
It was stated that five FIRs were lodged in various police stations. Several persons, including Ajmal Khan, Noor Aslam, Irshad, Aftab Khan, Gul Raziq and Jamil Khan, were arrested as per Gas Theft Control and Recovery Act 2016.
The task force also disconnected illegal gas pipeline networks of 1,350 feet from Gul Residentia Gul Bahar and 360 feet from Shah Nawaz Town, Dalazak Road, Peshawar.
