ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the newly-formed National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Agha Hassan Baloch Thursday said that no favour would be extended even to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) after reaching truth on the complaints regarding misappropriation of funds.

Talking to the media and later to ‘The News’, the young Baloch BNP leader said all the efforts would be made to dig out the truth involved in complaints against the PHF and other federations.

“I assure you that no pressure or favouritism would be tolerated in reaching the truth on the complaints on embezzlement of funds in the federations including the PHF. Our committee will make all-out efforts to reach the truth regarding these complaints,” he said.

The MNA added that as the chairman of the committee he would not tolerate any financial irregularities in the sports federations.

“We would not tolerate or allow any sports unit to get involved in any irregularities. First we have to check and verify the complaints and would move accordingly.”

The committee chairman admitted that the standard of our hockey was declining by each passing day.

“Hockey is our national game and need backing. During the last few years, we have gone from bad to worse by finishing poor 12th in the World Cup. For four-time world champions, this performance is nothing less than a disaster.”

Baloch said that he would take all the possible steps to help restore the game’s lost glory.

Besides hockey, he said the committee will make efforts to suggest measures to bring improvement in the plight of Olympic sports.

“I have to admit here that Olympic sports are also struggling in Pakistan. We will make efforts to suggest ways and means to improve the plight of these games.”

The MNA also asked Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to make arrangements to hold at least one of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 5 matches in Quetta.

“Even Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan is keen to have at least one match of the PSL in Quetta. We have got Akbar Bugti Stadium where the match can be organised after required renovation.”

The NA committee chairman said that hosting the PSL future matches in Quetta would be important for uplift of the game in the region and help Balochistan youngsters take up the game seriously.

“The PSL matches would help boost game’s passion amongst the youth of Balochistan.” Baloch added that IPC committee’s meeting will be convened soon.
